Welcome

Hi water lovvies! I’m so frikken’ excited you’re here on my freediving site!

For those who’ve yet to have the pleasure of knowing me personally (there’s still time to run screaming), I just want to personally welcome you into my underwater world. I’m Jessica Steele, and I’m definitely not your everyday adventure blogger. In fact, I’m just getting started so all of these posts are for me, my family, and my friends, following my journey as I learn all about freediving and making my mark in the sport I love.

And if I help you learn about freediving along the way, well that’s just a cherry on top!!

Playing around with my new underwater camera in the surf (this was a fun day)…

So first thing’s first, you can call me Jess. I’m a born and bred California native, who decided to jump ship on my career (we’ve only got one life, am I right) and ditch the legal notebooks for something a little more fun. Competitive freediving!!!

Since I started this journey I’ve had a lifetime of experiences and I like to think I’m still plenty young. Just over 37 countries (and counting), I’ve done some truly amazing things, from freediving with Whale Sharks off the Western Australian coastline, open water diving a Bull Shark feed in Fiji, and more wrecks, sunken cities, and underwater landscapes only a handful of people in the world have ever experienced…

Starting a descent to the depths of the unknown on a freedive in Western Australia…

But it’s not just about the memories, the experiences along the way are what really matters. I’ve spent time with some of the best freedivers the sport has ever known, learning from the freediving and spearfishing elite who have definitely taught me a thing or two along the way.

I like to think that I’m blessed, this crazy (but also beautiful) sport has taken me so far out of my comfort zone, I look back at all the incredible places I have been and the friends I have made, and I am excited to share my journey with you.

Because, and let’s face it, we’ve only got one shot at life, so you may as well stick around for a little inspiration, and start forging your own path. And who knows, you may find the freediving bug bites you (just like it did me).

Welcome to The Wandering Freediver!!

Headed home after a surfing lesson in Bali…
