Hello water fam! I’m so excited that you found your way to my site!
For those who don’t know me personally,
there’s still time to bail, I just want to take a second to personally welcome you into my world. I’m not your everyday adventure blogger – in fact I’m not really sure you can consider me a blogger at all. I’m still finding my voice in this huge internet world so I’m just gonna start by writing for myself – and if you can find any value in it, then I’m gonna count that as icing on the proverbial cake.
So first thing’s first, my name is Ashleigh and I’m a Florida native who, not too long ago, decided to take a break from my career in architecture to focus on competitive freediving. It was a scary decision to say the least, but one that I found to be completely necessary.
Since taking up the sport I’ve traveled to over 20 countries and have knocked some massive adventures off my bucket list. Freediving with Humpback whales in the South Pacific? Check. Free ballin’ in an icy mountain river in Switzerland? Check. Swimming with massive, enigmatic Tiger Sharks? Check. Freediving near the sunken cities of ancient Turkey? Ok, ok, you get the idea….
This crazy, beautiful sport has led me down a very surprising and inspiring road. In fact, since making the decision to participate in my first freediving competition, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to many incredible places all in the name of deep waters and amazing camaraderie. Whether I’m traveling for a serious event or just for the pleasure of diving in a completely new and unique location (Switzerland wuuuut), there’s no slowing down now.
As far as we know, we only get one shot at this journey called life – so if you’re looking for a taste of adventure (through a freediver’s perspective ◉‿◉) and maybe even a dash of inspiration to begin forging your own path, if I do my job right, you might just find it right here.
Welcome to The Wandering Freediver!
